I Need to Service My Tractor Battery

We want to help you learn how to remove and install your tractor’s battery.


If you do not feel that you understand these steps, or can perform them safely, consult your tractor dealer or local mechanic. Also always consult your tractor owner’s manual for model-specific information.


Time to get started.



Reason:

  • To remove and install a tractor’s battery.



Remove the Hood



1. Park the tractor safely and securely.


2. Shut off the engine.


Place chocks (A, Fig. 1) on each driving direction of the front and rear wheels.

Note:

  • Make sure that the parking brake is securely engaged.

  • Make sure to lower all of the implements to the ground.

















3. Lift the Hood.

  • Push the hood release lever rightward to unlatch the hood lock. (A, Fig. 2).

  • Lift up the hood (B, Fig. 2) with both hands until the hood support (C, Fig. 3) is automatically set.

Warning (Avoid injury):

  • Do not open the hood while the engine is running.

  • Do not touch any of the hot components, such as the muffler, exhaust pipe, and other hot components.









4. Remove the negative and positive cable from the battery.

  • Disconnect the black negative (-) cable (A, Fig. 4) from the negative (-) battery terminal (B, Fig. 4).

- Loosen the nut from the black negative (-) cable.

- Pull the black negative (-) cable away from the negative (-) battery terminal.


  • Disconnect the red positive (+) cable (D, Fig. 4) from the positive (+) battery terminal (C, Fig. 4).

- Pull the red positive terminal cover up from the positive (+) battery terminal to locate the nut.

- Loosen the nut from the red positive (+) cable.

- Pull the red positive (+) cable.

D – Red positive (+) terminal cable



Important:

  • Always remove the negative battery cable first during removal.



5. Remove the battery.


  • Remove the battery hold down assembly (F, Fig. 4) from the battery.

- Remove the flange nuts (E, Fig. 4) from the battery hold down assembly.

- Remove the battery hold down assembly from the battery.


  • Remove the battery away from the tractor.

- Place the battery in a clean and secured area.

Install the Battery



Important (Avoid damage):

  • Make sure that all the component parts are clean and in good condition before assembly.


Install the battery:

  • The installation of the battery is the reverse of the removal procedure.


Important:

  • Always install the positive battery cable first during installation.
